The Ruby SAML library is for implementing the client side of a SAML authorization, i.e. it provides a means for managing authorization initialization and confirmation requests from identity providers. SAML authorization is a two step process and you are expected to implement support for both.

Start treating client side events as first class citizens inside your Rails application with a built in WebSocket server. Sure, WebSockets aren't quite universal yet. That's why we also support streaming HTTP. Oh, and if you don't mind running a separate process, you can support just about any browser through Flash sockets without changing a line of code.

Last weekend I was working on an mini hackathon and launched a group emailing service. EmailList.io. The task was to setup an email server, how to fetch and parse emails in ruby on rails forward it to respective group members. Last part was pretty simple.

Action Mailer allows you to send emails from your application using mailer classes and views. Mailers work very similarly to controllers. They inherit from ActionMailer::Base and live in app/mailers, and they have associated views that appear in app/views.
