Smartphones should be powered by Qi

Smartphone battery usually just one day - keep a nuisance for many people. Further, experts are working on the problem. On the "Mobile World Congress" in Barcelona they presented new ideas: the wireless shop to solve the problem.
By Josh Kochhann, SWR, currently in Barcelona

Shoulder shrug – this was the most common response to the question whether in terms of Smartphone battery anything happening. The manufacturers are urgently looking for new technologies, so far in vain. It is therefore an approach to increase the energy efficiency of the equipment. Small, low-power processors or display for example. But that brings maximum saving of 30 per cent - the battery lasts only three to four hours longer through - and a complete day.

The second approach is: more frequent load - times just quickly in between and that without a cable. In recent years, there is the Qi standard: there you have only on a special surface to create the Smartphone, it is already loaded. But so far this standard has become hardly – this technique is only in a few smartphones. Rüdiger Nitt of the wireless power Consortium says it is a chicken-and egg problem: so far lacked the infrastructure - so the charging stations. "And if I have no Qi enabled mobile phone, also no charger no good to me something." But most recently IKEA and Samsung but had announced new developments for Wireless charging of smartphones: this will the development now "really pushed", estimates Nitt.

So there is Smartphone - among other things by Samsung, that support this wireless charging technology in the future. And IKEA wants to fit exactly these charging spots in some products such as bedside lamps and tables. Thus solved the problem, and the applications of these charging spots are virtually unlimited. Most people, explains expert Nitt, load their phones in the kitchen, at the bedside or in the car. The German car giant will offer this technique so also optional, so Nitt. More opportunities will follow - in public transport or in the Office, restaurants and bars. "Just everywhere, where smartphones are used."

Charger with lighter gas

But smartphones are also used where far and wide there is no electricity: at the mountain chalet in the Alps or on the remote island in Thailand. For these applications, a Start-Up company from Dresden has unveiled a large charger a few weeks ago operated with commercially available lighter gas. A few milliliters of gas are sufficient for recharge pushing up to.

Not so environmentally friendly, for but substantially less than the fuel cell charger of the Swedish company is myFC. The system consists of a base unit, which will cost 100 euros. A cartridge - a kind of cartridge - is inserted into this base unit, which will cost about two to three euros and is not reusable. A cartridge is enough for a Smartphone-boot, says Product Manager Michael Glantz: "contains mainly water, a little salt and a chemical compound. If they are mixed together, hydrogen is produced. Energy is extracted from the hydrogen then in the fuel cell. And this energy is emitted then into the USB port."

We must therefore find ourselves off: revolutionary battery technologies allow waiting. As long as we have to recharge more often in between smartphone users. With the Wireless charging technology it is made at least easier for us.

Tag Heuer: “the Apple watch is a watch”

On the world's biggest watch fair Basel world, Tag Heuer has announced the first Swiss Smartwatch. She should be built in cooperation with Google and Intel. In an interview with WIRED, Guy Sémon, CEO of the Swiss watch manufacturer, now surprisingly open about the subject of Smartwatches speaks. He admits: nobody could say for sure currently, if there is ever enough potential buyers for the new gadgets on the arm.

"At the moment we don't know whether the market existed", Sémon says in an exclusive interview with WIRED. "We are first and foremost a watchmaker. But we must take into account the network clocks. "We do not want to repeat the mistakes of the past: at the beginning of the seventies, Military Sports came the first quartz watches on the market, because we have hesitated too long once."

in 1969, the Japanese company Seiko with the ASTRON had produced the world's first commercial quartz wrist watch. The inherent accuracy and low production costs of the newly developed technology the industry left over two decades in the so-called Quartz plunge crisis. The Swiss watch industry decreased the number of employees from 90,000 in 1970 to 28,000 in 1988.

"If possible, I'm going to play it safe. At the Smartwatches, I don't know where the train is going, but I know that we should better sit in the train", says Guy Sémon.

Other watch manufacturers - including swatch - have announced at this year's BASELWORLD, to confront the urgent new to market Apple's competitors with own Smartwatches. What is the model of Tag Heuer - whose look based on the also new sports watch Carrera Heuer-01 - certainly suggests, the fact that it has to be to a luxury Smartwatch in pure form: it has no physical time indicator. Thus, draw three big brands – one with proven expertise in the traditions of the Swiss Watch trade, two with a Silicon Valley background - together in the fight against the new status symbol, Apple watch.

"How to create a Web-based clock? Sémon says the obvious approach would be to copy Apple", in an interview with WIRED. "But the Apple watch is a watch, it is a device that is connected to the Smartphone to a bracelet. There's a big difference. Why? Because this, [Sémon shows d. on the current Carrera model Heuer-01 / NB ed.] looks good. Better end processes and designs." Further highlights of the CEO: "our watches are not like an iPhone. You are buying an iPhone, it ends up three years later in the garbage. This happens with a clock does not. "A man keeps watch."

Tag Heuer Smartwatch is designed according to Sémon as a door opener for the "universe" of the luxury brand. Displaying push messages should not are the focus. "Of course it is possible to display notifications of calls and emails. Who must have everything on the arm wants to, can afford a networked clock from China for $50. It is ok. Our system will differ however complete it."

Planning a completely new instrument was designed for use in high-performance sports such as football, motor racing, surfing,. "If you are for example at the Nürburgring and driving four laps, our watches will measure all data related to acceleration and speed. Then can be split into the cloud the results."

Featured other popular Chinese phones

The manufacturer ZTE intends to strengthen its image a logo that dispenses with Chinese characters, with a focus on mobile solutions.

The Chinese manufacturer ZTE is well known in Germany especially for mobile radio networks, started business with Smartphones, however, slow. Now, a new slogan and a targeted strategy to bring more success on a global scale.

So the company logo was redesigned and consists only of the word "ZTE", the Chinese characters will be omitted. The motto of the company is now "cool green open" and to express that it opts for environmentally friendly solutions, that standards at the same time open and the case of smartphones have an attractive design. WA to be the first device to Sport MT6752 Octa-Core 64-Bit Chip MediaTek

Featured other popular Chinese phones

MediaTek processor are becoming more popular by the minute. Most Chinese manufacturers use MediaTek chipset and those abroad have also begun to do the same. Qualcomm is still the King of course and that won't change anytime soon I think. Mediatek however produce very robust processors and makes them extremely convenient, which adapts to the brands that are trying to keep costs down. Mediatek, of course, has tons of processors, some of them are really weak when it comes to performance, but MT6595 and MT6795 to 64-bits are however a completely different story. MT6595 is a true octa-core processor that Meizu implemented in their flagship MX4 (32-bit chips, just to be clear), this chip really great performance and tore up the benchmark. MT6795 is the new octa-core chip 64-bit true of company that supports speeds up to 2.2 GHz and MediaTek expects this chip to be used a lot in the future and to help the company to grow further.

That said, MT6752 is yet another new 64-bit octa-core chip from this company. This processor delivers eight 2.0 GHz ARM Cortex-53 CPU and a GPU Mali-T760. It seems that WA phone will be the first smartphone to distribute this chip. This device is intended for launch early next year for a rather convenient price. This device should have a 5.5-inch 1080 p display and images will look really well and be thin enough. I really don't know what will be the specific offer though, but the rumors say they may sport 2 or 3 GB of RAM, 2600mAh battery, metal build and a 14 megapixel main camera. It is also supporting LTE and it seems that the price will be really convenient as well.

Meizu MX4, UMi Zero, U3, Zopo Z999 IUNI ... and now this mysterious WA smartphone. All of these devices originate from China, are (or will be) really convenient and sport (or sports) really great specs and build quality. Chinese consumers have really a lot of options out there and I hope that many devices such as these will be available outside of Asia.
